Baby without oxygen after bronchiolitis obliterans: a positive evolution at 1 year
I wanted to share a very beautiful milestone.
My son was diagnosed in July 2025, at 6 months old. Today, he is one year old… and he manages to spend an entire day without oxygen.
When he left the ICU, he was on 2 liters per minute. Then, little by little, we reduced it. Again and again. We used a neonatal flow meter to very gradually go down between 0 and 1.
And today, he no longer needs it during the day. His saturation stays above 92.
It's a real relief to see him breathe without oxygen.
Of course, we keep the equipment within reach. The catheter and the bottle are never far away, especially at night when it may still be necessary. But it's a huge step.
According to the physiotherapists, there are more open alveoli. Some atelectasis remains, but progress is there.
Now, we continue. Physiotherapy every day, breathing exercises, maximum vigilance to avoid infections.
And over time, his lung can still grow and compensate for the scarred areas.
It's positive. Really positive.
