Description
Powerful corticosteroid available orally or intravenously. Used during severe inflammatory flare-ups of BO, particularly as intravenous pulse therapy (high-dose infusions over a few days) to rapidly control acute inflammation. Also prescribed as oral step-down after an exacerbation. Like other systemic corticosteroids, prolonged use requires monitoring for side effects (growth in children, bones, blood sugar).
