Specialist in paediatric respiratory medicine and lung transplantation, with expertise focused on rare, complex and severe respiratory diseases in children. Practice primarily at tertiary and quaternary levels: managing complex cases and providing second or third opinions for other specialists, in the UK and internationally. Practises exclusively at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), with no activity in other hospitals or private practice. Preference given to NHS consultations, with flexibility where access is difficult. Significant international practice, largely funded by foreign governments. Background: initial training in London (UCL), then specialisation in paediatrics and paediatric respiratory medicine at several major centres (GOSH, Royal Brompton, Oxford, Liverpool). Humanitarian experience with UNICEF and MERLIN. Academic responsibilities: leading research and training activities in respiratory medicine at GOSH. Main research areas: life expectancy in cystic fibrosis, impact of lung transplantation, measuring lung function in young children, imaging and analysis of pulmonary ventilation. Major distinction: Paediatric Research Award from the European Respiratory Society in 2002. Teaching commitment: supervision of national and international training programmes, organisation of a reference programme in Southern England, and regular presentations at international conferences on rare lung diseases.
